Jean Michel's Diary

Bonjour again,

It is not as if we are allowed to forget that today is Valentine’s day, tv, press, shops, everywhere you look there is an ”In your face” reminder that this is the day! So why so many people leave it to the last minute to try to get a table for this special occasion is beyond me. Especially at your favorite restaurant, la Garrigue. I can understand the young gentleman who, quote,” up to yesterday I did not have anyone” but for the rest of you there are no excuses! As for me, it is Valentine’s every day!!! (I hope Karen does not read this) Mind you, I suppose it is good for business and it also give us an excuse to get out in the middle of the week so that’s good. Next year is not going to be so easy as Valentines is on a Saturday and I am not going to fill the restaurant with couples only….so plan it now!

I am really sorry for the people who missed our “Winter in Languedoc” Evening last week, The wines were very good indeed and Catherine was a very good hostess, she is so passionate about our region, the products, and the people. It is always a pleasure to see her. The evening went very well and there was a good buzz at La Garrigue. Hubert’s food was superb, from the starters to the dessert - not to forget the cheese. Julie, Baptiste and the rest of the team ensured everything went smoothly and I really want to thank them for their contribution. I also want to thank “les Amis De La Garrigue” for their support on this occasion, as without you, these kind of evenings will not happen.

I am not going to mention too much of the rugby results so far, but I am a bit surprised by the Scottish team who I thought had a good chance this year to take the championship. Well that’s not going to happen now, but please…..do beat the English, and beware of the Italians……..

My good friend Andrew Walker, the Artist behind all the paintings you can see in the restaurant, came to see me yesterday and replaced all the sold paintings with new ones. Yon can now admire and buy more than 15 new works of art, including some superb water colors, and oils. We are also planning a display of Andrew’s work of Combret, my village in the Cevennes, sometime this summer, I will send you a reminder nearer to the date.

If you happen to be in town on the 1st of March, near Castle Terrace, pop in to the Farmers Market, I am doing some cookery demonstration for the “Slow Food” movement. Come and say hello, and have a bite to eat.

See you then,
Jean-Michel
