Jean Michel's Diary
Greetings from La Garrigue,
Yes I know, it has been a while since my last letter, and you must have thought I retired
or something.Sorry to disappoint you, I just have been very busy and I did not realize
a few months went by since I last contacted you.
Once again, I want to thank you all for your support. At a time where every body is
talking about the credit crunch , La Garrigue has been doing quite well, and
with the festival just round the corner, it looks like we are going to survive another
year. Of course like every small business we are concerned about any talk about recession,
but I strongly believe that if we keep our prices at the same level and are careful with
our expenditure, we should be able to keep going.
I must admit that for the first time ever, I am now taking the train to come to work;
it was weird the first few days but I am getting used to it, and at least I am doing my
bit for our planet, so there is a feel good factor about it somewhere along the line, and
Karen has now the used of a good car
.hum!!
Do you remember in the spring I told you about my new hobby, gardening
..?
Well, I have to report that once I realized that my vegetables where not doing so well
because the local rabbits thought a new market had just opened in the neighbourhood, we
are now beginning to see some serious progress. We ate our first radishes, the parsley,
chives, tarragon, corriander, fennel and rosemary have all contributed to a few dishes,
our first lettuces are a success, the beans, runner beans, peas are doing well.
Somebody should have told me about the space courgette plants actually take, as well as
cauliflower, artichokes, corn, pumpkins and aubergines, not to mention potatoes
. The
leeks, onions and celery are taking shape but seems a bit slow
I am also concerned
about my tomatoes
any tips?
As well as a new summer menu, now running, I need to let you know that in August, La
Garrigue will be host to an Exposition of South of France paintings by the French Artist
Denis Ribas who recently showed his work at the Bourne Gallery in Edinburgh. We have one
of his painting just now and you can see his work on www.denis-ribas.com. So if you are
looking for that special present or want to invest in art, you know where to come, and of
course our good friend Andrew Walkers Paintings are also available; have you seen
his new paintings from Combret, my village in the Aveyron part of France? What stopped
you?
Well , I really need to go now but not before letting you know that we are still going to
run with the 3 for 2 promotion in July on Monday to Thursday, lunch and dinner
if you book your table on line.
So hurry back to your favourite restaurant and please, tell your friends about
us
.only the good bits of course!
See you soon,
Jean-Michel
