Jean Michel's Diary

Cher Ami, bonjour,

And welcome to my “Spring Journal”!
First of all, I want to clear something out, I am not bitter, and the Irish Rugby team deserved to be this year Champions and deserved to be Grand Slam Winners as well.
It is a just reward for years of hard work and frustration for most of those guys who had to deal with very strong English, French and Welsh teams since the last century! I am of course a bit disappointed with the French performance but it is a very young team and they did show some flashes of brilliance especially against Ireland, Italy and Wales. The fact they did not turn up for the English game is a bit of a mystery, against Scotland they did not want to be to cruel, and they kind of respect the Auld Alliance ,.. This is French rugby …..

So, what is new at La Garrigue…?
Well our good friend Baptiste, our long serving French waiter decided to move back to sunny France after a couple of years spent in Edinburgh, we gave him a good send off and our friends at Daniel’s Bistro in Leith provided us with a very good lunch which lasted well into the afternoon…. Few of us do not remember much about the rest of the evening… we are all getting old you see…

So far we managed to survive the credit crunch and we are very grateful to the people who came to support our special events especially on Mothers’ day and for the cheese and wine evening hosted by the lovely Victoria from Liberty Wines; the feed back received was very good and I am looking forward to the Vegetarian Evening on the 15th of April. This is a real challenge and the menu look superb… and there are still a few spaces left….
Thank you also to Jim Muir and the Cowdenbeath Rotary club for choosing La Garrigue for a special dinner, it was nice to see a full restaurant on a cold Wednesday night.

By the way with Spring round the corner, it is going to be gardening time soon, and any kind of tips will be very welcome as I may have to supply the restaurant this summer. This could be the best alternative as I still refuse to use the services of the cheap supermarkets …..

I need to leave you now as I am going to a wine tasting…again….. This work is so demanding sometimes…!
A bientot,
J-Michel
