A friend of mine was supposed to take me hunting with birds of prey today, and for the second time it was cancelled due to the rain; bother, bother bother! I thought I was going to have a day off this week. Instead I get the guilty feeling; so here I am. Mind you we cannot really complaint about the weather so far this winter compared ; with the rest of the UK we’ve had an easy ride ...so far.
I do not remember such a busy January. I am not sure where all the business is generating from but this has been the strongest for years; it must be all those good reviews in Trip Advisor! Thanks to all the Friends of La Garrigue who reviewed us on this now, unavoidable site. On my last journal I set the target of reaching the top 50 restaurants in Edinburgh. You achieved it in a month! I now just have to insure you keep us there. Thanks again.
I have some good news for Miss S Laing ! Miss Laing you are the winner of our monthly prize draw of a dinner for two with a bottle of house wine! Congratulations and thank you for choosing La Garrigue.
I do apologise to all my English friends regarding the result of the first rugby game of this years Six Nations. It was indeed very cruel to let you believe that you had won the game until the last 4 minutes. I promise to have a word with young Fickou next time I see him; the arrogance of youth!! I am not going to comment on the performance of the Scottish team as I am not qualified enough to understand this lack of passion; I thought the Italians were there to make up the numbers, not Scotland!
Lots of activities are planned for La Garrigue the next few weeks and I hope you will be able to free yourself and join us for a bit of Languedoc hospitality. Unfortunately, if you haven’t booked your table for this coming Friday or Saturday, the rugby week end is already fully booked.
We have a nice dinner planned for Valentines Day. Again, I hope you have made your reservation already as there are no spaces left that evening either. Romantic Scots cannot resist an evening of “La vie en Rose”!
I am sure you are not going to miss the third opportunity to join us for the first of our wine evening and ‘Gastronomique Tour de France’ on the 27th of February. I am going to take you to the South West of France in the department of the Landes, Gers and Pyrennes. I have prepared the menu and my good friend Simon from Henri’s in Stockbridge will provide the wine. It will be the best of the area; Madiran Jurancon, Cahors ....an evening not to be missed; please call me now to avoid another disappointment.
Of course there is more to come; this is only the beginning of the year. Already another Rugby week-end is on the horizon with a promising Scotland v France meeting on the 8th of March followed by a food and wine festival from Corsica on the 27th of March. I am in contact with food and wine suppliers from “l’ile de Beaute” as we call it. It looks like I may have to go there for a bit of authenticity before then, fancy coming along?
Before letting you go I have to mention that I also write a wee blog on Bites, the monthly free Magazine, written by locals and worth picking up, to keep you informed on the Edinburgh dining scene....
Time for me to go now, come on, cheer up, Spring is just round the corner...
