Broughton High School - from allotment to plate

I recently spent a very enjoyable day at Broughton High School  helping show some students how to convert fruit and vegetables into soup and desserts. We started at Inverleith allotments where plotholders helped us gather all we needed to make six large pots of soup and a couple of desserts. The objective was to show that healthy eating wasn't that difficult and that food could be easily created from raw materials straight out of the ground. Mind you, some of the curly carrots we had to contend with was a bit of a challenge.

The food was well received by teachers and students alike, I must say - the taste from such fresh produce was incredible. Everyone should have a chance to grow their own food!

Well done to the school and the plotholders for having the vision and community spirit to set up the event. Other groups from the school visited the Inverleith site to take part in gardening demonstrations, an art class and even a visit to seek inspiration for metalwork plant supports for their own vegetable gardens currently being built at the school.

The Evening News reported on the cooking side of the event.
