Tim Stead

Tim Stead was an English born sculptor and furniture maker who sadly died, age 48 in April 2000. His unique gift was his ability to find and work with the inherent qualities of the wood with which he worked.

A graduate of Glasgow School of Art, Tim Stead evolved his unique craft on both a practical and a philosophical level. While the Tim Stead tables and chairs of La Garrigue contribute to the overall aesthetic of the restaurant, within one kilometre of the restaurant at the Royal Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street more fantastical examples of his work can be seen. In the education department of the museum the doorway is a testament to the unique insights he enjoyed while the entrance hall houses the Millennium Clock — a collaboration between Tim Stead, Eduard Bersudsky and others.
