Chers Amis de La Garrigue
How are you?
Was Santa good to you?
Are you back at work yet?
Back to the gym and punishing yourself for over indulging at Christmas and Hogmanay and possibly in between?
I started back with my daily morning trip to the pool but I am afraid it is going to take me a few months to get back to an acceptable level of fitness.
Mind you, it is not my fault; I blame Morgan for giving me Christmas day and The first of January off; the first time in years ; I am just not used to it but I am willing to practice! I was of course working for Hogmanay and this must be my favourite evening of the year; The atmosphere is always very enjoyable, everybody is happy, (even the chefs!) and here for a good time; there is no place like Edinburgh to celebrate and welcome the New Year; the fireworks from the Castle and Calton Hill were spectacular and the weather, for once, very clement. All considered December was a good month for La Garrigue; business was good , we had a good team, and the feed back from our guests also very good. It has been the best overall result ever, so we must be doing something right to deserve your support; we are ready to embrace 2017 and the challenges ahead !
Already January is picking up and our decision to stay open for the first week proved to be the right one as we were very busy indeed . I am sure we are going to appreciate a few days off when the restaurant closes on the Sunday the 8th for a bit of maintenance and housekeeping. We will reopen for business on the Saturday the 14th with a new menu and an updated wine list....something to look forward to.
Our events calendar is quite heavy this year and we cannot wait to welcome you for a few of our special evenings. The first one , “The Auld Alliance Burns Supper” on the 25th of January is already well subscribed and it looks like we will have a full house soon; if you have not yet book your table have a look at our menu on line.
February will not be long coming and with it the start of the 6 Nations championship with 3 games in Scotland this year, a real treat! It looks like an other exciting tournament with Scotland, Ireland ,and England playing very well indeed and with a (small) chance to beat France ...may be! It all start on the 4th of February with a mouth watering Scotland /Ireland, and a very special menu at La Garrigue....
March is long time away and we had to bring forward our first wine Evening with Cathy Jones from the celebrated Domaine Jones , in Fitou. The new date for the dinner is on the 15th of March and I hope you will be joining us to meet Cathy and sample the great wines she and her French husband , Jean-Marc are producing from this small village in Roussillon. They story is quite something and worth looking up .
April will be the first Languedoc Wine Tour of 2017 and I am really looking forward to take a few lucky wine lovers for a week holiday (16th to the 21rd) in the south of France to help me to sample a few new wines, visiting a few vineyards, dining in some of the area best restaurants, doing a bit of tourism while enjoying the Spring Sunshine …...well deserved after a long, dark cold Scottish winter.....will you join me? I am only a phone call away..
Time for me to go! I hope I have not taken to much of your time.
Before leaving you to enjoy the rest of your day I want to wish you all a very rewarding , satisfying, fulfilling, year ,full of happiness , love and peace...
