I think I am beginning to understand the real reason behind those people who are saying that they are going to move south if we have a ” YES” vote; Faslane, Pensions, Euro... That is just an excuse, the reason is....you guessed it,...the Weather!!! 20 degrees in London, 5 degrees in Edinburgh; no contest!!! Mind you the weather is not everything and following the result of the election in France I am going to stay here a little bit longer as I am not a great fan of the NF who seems to be gaining more and more support across the Channel!!
What a month we just had at La Garrigue! The busiest March since records started as they say. (July 2001) At the beginning of the month we had the French rugby invasion; good for the business but poor rugby; then a lawyers conference the week after, followed by our Tour de France evening and to finish off , our Mother’s Day Week-end; I really need a rest but thanks for all your support.
I want to take this opportunity to also thank Lits, the Somelier who made the Faugere evening so special; I cannot remember meeting someone with so much passion and love for the Languedoc and the Terroir that this unassuming (yes!) Englishman has. A small man but a great Monsieur! If you missed that evening I am afraid you missed something rather special, the food was very good, the wine superb, and the “compere” enchanting.
Mind you our next evening on the 30th of April is something to look forward to; An evening in Corsica,” L’Ile de Beaute” as the French call it. I am working on the menu just now with a Corsican chef from London who may join us on the night, the wine is practically organized, I just have to taste it one more time just to make sure...and I am trying to import some of the island’s “Vache Tigre” to make the dinner really unique. Failing this a Cabri (goat) may be the Piece de Resistance. Don’t forget to put the date in your diary !
I took the opportunity of having Lits with us to put the final touches to the Languedoc trip in June; new routes, new winery, new restaurants and the opportunity to see the Languedoc in late Spring when the cherries are just ripe and the wild asparagus plentiful.
I have booked the House at the Domaine de Clovallon where Catherine will host our welcoming reception and after that a week of good food and wine in places where only the locals will consider parting with their Euros. Once again I will be your driver, tour guide, translator and hopefully your friend for a whole week....interested ? Then don’t wait, call me now as there are only 8 places for this gastronomique tour.
Thank you for all those great reviews on Trip Advisor as we are now into the top forty restaurants in town....and getting up the ladder all the time. I hope you are also going to support La Garrigue for the Good Food Guide Award. Information at www.thegoodfoodguide.co.uk .
Should you think that a Scottish Award is more suitable you can vote for La Garrigue at the Scottish Entertainments Awards. This will take us to Glasgow for the Scottish Award Variety Show on the 18th of May. This year I am planning to take a table of 8, and 4 unlucky people , friends of La Garrigue will be asked to join us for this fun evening! Vote for La Garrigue on www.entertainmentawards.co.uk and who knows you may win this great prize! All that voting; just a bit of practice voting before September....a good Democratic habit to take!!
I have just been told the traffic on the Forth bridge is restricted because of the fog...sorry I have to go before they decide to close it again....
