Sunday.... am going to kill somebody today !!!
My first day off in weeks and I was so looking forward to a lazy Sunday. But due to a mix up with the keys I received an early call this morning telling me the chefs could not open the restaurant and the manager’s phone was on the answer machine!! So here I am checking e-mails, printing menus, ordering wines for next week etc..
Mind you I suppose I will not have to do it tomorrow, and while I am here I may as well make the most of it and get on with it. I was going to write this journal this week anyway so in a way I am ahead of schedule for a change.
What a start of the Festive season we’ve had! Usually the first few days of December are fairly quiet then as the month goes on, things get really busy. This year however we had our first Office dinner party on the 24th of November and the first week of December has been really strong, with no time to warm up really.
The rest of the month is packed with office parties and private dining. We are also full for both services in Christmas Day and the restaurant is fully booked from 8 pm onward for hogmanay....I think we will have to close for a couple of days in January before putting the show back on the road.....If we make it until then that is!!
I am of course working on the calendar of events for 2014. Following the success of our wine trip in Languedoc I am planning to do one in June and another in September, please let me know now if you could be interested as we had to turn down so many people the first time round.
We will start our calendar of events with a “Auld Alliance “ dinner of the 22nd of January , our homage to Robbie Burns; a five course dinner with wines included. The menu has just gone onto the website.
February will see the beginning of the 6 Nations Rugby tournament with the Scotland /England game on the 8th followed by the inevitable Valentines’day on the 14th and the start of our Tour De France Gastronomique on the 27th who this time will start in Corsica.
March will see France ‘s Rugby team playing Scotland at Murrayfield......and the second Stage of our tour De France gastronomique will take us to The South West of France , the country of Armagnac....
In April we will celebrate Easter with a very special Easter Sunday lunch and the 3rd stage of the Tour this time in the Cote du Rhone with some superb Gigondas and Chateuneuf du Pape...
May is a long time away, so lets just wait and see what Spring will bring beside sunshine , longer days and daffodils...
Lunch has now started and a couple of Old friends of La Garrigue just arrived for their Sunday fayre.
The chefs are ready at last and Morgan and his team of waiters just had their briefing, I am going to shake a few hands then make my way home....to cook the family Sunday lunch.....and enjoy a large glass of wine ...or two!!
I only have to wish you , your family and friends, a very happy Christmas and a very prosperous and Happy New Year.
Warmest wishes to all,
J-Michel and the team
