Dear Friend of La Garrigue
Well, don’t come to me and moan about the weather, I gave you plenty of opportunities to come and join me for a week in the sun in the South of France during one of my wine trips! I just came back from the first trip of 2016 and after a week of sunshine and pleasant temperatures it is a shock to come back to hail, snow and rain with freezing temperatures. Lovely Scottish Spring!
The trip went very well. The food and of course the wines were as good as ever. Beside the traditional and most enjoyable visits to the celebrated Domaines of Clovalon and Daumas Gassac, the highlight of the trip was a picnic in the vineyard of Mas Gabriel in the village of Caux. Thank you so much Deborah for your hospitality. We also enjoyed a wine tasting with my good friend, and wine maker Joel at La Grange Leon in Berloup; two “coup de Coeur” in a week! The last evening dinner in the tasting room of Catherine at Mas D’Alezon in Faugeres is always a treat and this time around Bernard the resident chef excelled himself...
Back at La Garrigue now, where during my absence Morgan and the team made sure my trip abroad went unnoticed, and judging by the comments in the guests questionnaires things went very well indeed. Thank you all for your continued support. April was a good month overall, we also recruited a couple of new chefs in view of the upcoming season, and the team is looking stronger than ever. I am really looking forward to challenge them with the Festival of Asparagus dinner on the 31st of May but looking at the food produced for our vegetarian evening in April I do not have too many concerns. I was going to make a few changes to the menu to make it more spring like but maybe waiting for spring to arrive is a good idea! Mind you, I will need to make a few changes soon as I am away again in a couple of weeks for another week of wine tasting and fine dining in my beloved Languedoc, maybe this time you will make the right decision and come with me, I still have a couple of spaces left...come on, you know you want to, summer is still a long time away...details here.
A bientôt,
J-Michel
