It has been a while
since my last journal, and I hope you will forgive me, but La Garrigue is going
through a few changes and the last few months have been very challenging.....to
say the least!
2012 was my “Annus
Horibilis”. It started with the closure of La Garrigue at Eyre Place, and then went from bad
to worst and ended up with the closure of the Bistro in Leith
last month. What is done is done so now we must look ahead.
The main change is that ‘La Garrigue’ is no more....long live ‘La Garrigue Edinburgh LTD’.
I am very lucky to have received very strong support from my family, friends, suppliers and loyal customers; all insisted “the show must go on!!”
Already you may have noticed a few changes; I revisited our website and with the help of Stuart, freshened up the whole thing, new colour, new pictures, more recipes, it looks so much better already.....
Victor and Jaime joined the kitchen team and I am delighted with their support, attitude and skills; Morgan is joining the team in front of house as Michael is going to move on The wine list and menus are being revamped....you can now follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
The 2013 calendar of events will be published very soon with a couple of wine tasting evenings, the first one will be held on the 10th of April.
Also starting in March a “Tour De France Gastronomique” with a monthly event visiting different regions of France, starting with Alsace, then Burgundy, Provence, Bordeaux, and Normandy to finish . So if you add Valentine’s Day, a couple of Rugby week-ends, Mother’s Day and Easter the next few months are going to be very exciting.
Of course marketing is going to play a big part in the launching of the new La Garrigue, and I am working on a new advertising campaign to make sure people are kept informed of new menus, wines, events etc....I also became more aware of the power of Trip Advisor and the effect it can have on the business. More people seem to read the reviews of the public than the traditional food writer’s magazines...good thing? bad thing? I am not sure, but it is happening, so if you fancy writing a piece on La Garrigue....I promise to answer to your comments and take them on board.
This is the time of year when The Good Food Guide asks its readers to vote for their favourite restaurant; a couple of years ago we were lucky enough to win the Scottish heat; do you think we deserve to win it again this year? If so please click on.....Thanks
I hope you will be able to join us, for a quick bite at lunch time, a dinner with friends, a family event or for one of the upcoming events, and contribute to the rebirth of La Garrigue....I am looking forward to seeing you again....
In the meantime I am off for a photo shoot with the team ; believe me it is going to be hard to smile after this catastrophic Rugby result .......next time we meet, please DO NOT MENTION THE RUGBY!!!!!!
A bientot,
J-Michel
