Mes chers Amis bonjour!
This is it; it has arrived!! I am talking of course about Winter. Snow and minus temperatures forecasted , it was long coming but here we are! Only a week ago I was picking mushrooms in a pine woodland in La Garrigue in Bedarieux while visiting the family. A most enjoyable trip it was too, as we were in need of a break after the Festive period; decent if not hot weather, decent food, (well, I did most of the cooking!) and some pretty good wines too. I even managed to visit a couple of vineyards that I am going to add to my Wine Trip in April and a superb new seafood restaurant in Valras Plage, which up to now was a gastronomique desert! So if you feel like a dose of sunshine is needed come April do come and join me!
The holidays are now over for me and also for you I presume, so back to work, and there is plenty to do here at La Garrigue. To start with it was time to review the menus and the new a la Carte is doing well with some encouraging feedback and returning customers. The oysters, rabbit, and vacherin are our best sellers to date. The calendar of events is finalised and published, starting with an Auld Alliance/ Burns supper on the 25th of January, before the start of the rugby season and the 6 nations in February when a few rugby lunches are programmed...really looking forward to seeing the Scottish team this year as they were impressive at the World Cup last summer.
As well as the new a la carte, and starting next week, we also are going to bring some changes to our wine list! Don’t panic we are not going to bring foreign wines from Burgundy or Bordeaux. We are just going to offer more wines by the glass as well as offering glass by 125 ml instead of 175ml as large is not ”trendy” anymore and most people ask for smaller quantities especially at lunch time. So la Garrigue will follow the government guide lines for a “healthier Scotland”. Bien sur, if you want to purchase 2 glasses this won’t be a problem, actually a small glass of white to start followed by a tiny glass of red...my kind of lunch, when I am not working of course or driving, or baby seating for that matter!!
This is a very special day for me today from a very personal point of view. This is the first time that I have used my bus pass!! All the way from Fife this morning, in a bus the first time ever over the Bridge! I hope this is not the beginning of my way to old age, or my children’s way to tell me that I shouldn’t be driving at my age.....no, only doing my bit to become more environmentally friendly. Not sure if I am going to like this; I will keep you informed.
Alors, a bientot?
J-Michel
