J-Laurent, Pascal and
Alana are just back from a week in France, visiting the family and enjoying
getting spoiled for a week by their Grandmother’s cooking....I understand they
also had a go at my cellar! Anyway they brought back some of the best fruits I
ever tasted; apricots, ripe and juicy, amazing melons, white peaches to die
for, cherries as big as plums and full of flavour, all from friend’s gardens,
totally organic, not overwatered or grown in glass houses, what a difference! I
wanted to make a couple of tarts in the restaurant but the chefs could not
believe the flavours of those fruits and for once they had a good
breakfast...If only we could get fruits like this here!
I was France at the
beginning of the month for a couple of days, to meet up with Bernard to fine
tune the timetable of our trip in September. The gite is really nice, right in
the middle of the vineyard, and the rooms are so big, not what I expected! The
wine tastings have been confirmed, so are the tours and the restaurant
bookings. The mini bus is reserved....,all ready to go!
I still have a few places left so… If you fancy a holiday in the south of France with a serious, but fun, food and wine theme...pick up the phone and call me! We depart the 15th of September and return the 22nd. The tour includes a bit of tourism; visits to the best vineyards in the region, wine tasting, grape picking, visiting the Caves of Roquefort, the famous blue cheese, and lunches and dinners in the best restaurants the Languedoc has to offer...weight watchers and vegetarians excused!
In the meantime, we are getting ready for our 13th Festival, and I have the white hair to prove it! So far the bookings are looking good and we expanded our opening times to cater for the theatre and Edinburgh Tattoo goers. We have recruited more chefs and waiters to see us through this busy time. Everyone is settling in very well... bring it on!
Before this, of course, there is the Loire dinner on the 24th. Philippe from L’Art du vin has selected some outstanding wines once again and the menu looks excellent. This is the last of our Gastronomic Tour De France so join us if you are free that evening. This programme has proved to be very successful so I may do something similar in the Autumn if I recover from the trip in September that is!!!
I am going to finalise the 14th of July lunch menu; a traditional must in the French calendar. Maybe I should give it an “Auld Alliance “ twist this year after the success of Marion and Andy, right in the heart of the” Old Enemy” territory. I bet the strawberries at Wimbledon tasted even sweeter this year for the French and Scottish tennis fans!
Well done to both new Champions!
La Garrigue would be delighted to welcome you Andy if you happen to visit the capital; a glass of orange juice is waiting for you!!
I can hear some foot steeps upstairs; 12 .15 pm our first clients of the day...need to go!
See you soon,
Have a great Summer,
J-M and team!
