The Duck Tartare I just finished eating is just what the doctor ordered after a long day’s work; and the bowl of Strawberries and basil ice cream I am tucking into while writing this journal is just....Summer in a plate! These are only two of the new dishes on the menu just now and I hope you will come and sample them soon; the sun is shining at La Garrigue too.
I really like the month of May as it brings all those fine products we have been waiting for all winter; asparagus, artichokes, tomatoes, strawberries, lamb, morels etc....our fish monger also managed to get some sea spinach and samphire, beautifully fresh and salty, a delight with any fish dishes.....I also managed a few walks by the Tay and picked some really beautiful wild garlic and sweet cicely, which so well complement our back garden nettle soup.....
The third stage of our” Gastromomique Tour De France” took us to Provence and our dinner was again a great success the wines were outstanding especially the Bandol red from the Chateau Pibarnon 2007 while the Rimauresq white was ....just sinful!
I hope you will join us for the next stage who will take us to Bordeaux; I just finalised the menu and a couple of nights ago we tasted the star of the night, an exquisite 1996 Chateau Lafon-Rochet......so good that my friend Philipe from L’Art du Vin decided to join us for that evening....
And other good friend of mine, Bernard, is putting the final touches to our Languedoc trip in September; lots of wine tasting, visits to some of the best vineyards of the area, as well as some of the best local restaurants...a bit of sightseeing and lots of fun....I hope! A bit of work as well as during “les Vendanges” every bit of help is welcome...so it is going to be straw hat, wellies, secateurs, and siesta....I understand there is a swimming pool by the gite !! Interested? Well why not, you too need a break! Depart the 15th of September..... return the 22nd!
Now what about this basil ice-cream flavoured strawberries.......
A bientot,
J-Michel
