During the summer months, lots of my friends make the most of the long days and enjoy the Scottish countryside bagging one Munro after the other...while at La Garrigue we are bagging festivals; the 13th so far!
It is always the same scenario, we wait for 7 months for the Festival to arrive after an usually busy December, then suddenly he hits you, then its gone!!
This year was a good one, possibly the busiest ever and it looks like we broke all records in terms of covers at least, so well done to all the team! The most pleasing effect beside the financial gain, is that the feedback has been really positive, and even in ”Trip Advisor” our rating has improved and the comments were all very good; I want to take this opportunity to apologise to the “pop- up Critics “ of the Internet as I just did not had the time to answer to their comments; the thought is there nevertheless, and thank you for your custom.
I had a couple of days to take stock, relax, do some foraging. The time has now come to look forward to the next four months.
Of course as you all know by now, the trip to the South of France for our week in Vendanges, wine tasting and gastronomy, is just round the corner, and I am really looking forward to it. I am sorry for having to say “sorry, fully booked“ to so many of you, but provided the people of this first trip behave themselves, it is very likely that many more will follow .....truffle hunting this winter? Watch this space!
October will see the second season of our “Gastronomique Tour de France” starting the 14th of October with the long awaited Normandy Stage - a dinner based around Calvados and cider and some outstanding Normandy cheeses. Our menu is now available. Actually for the whole of the week La Garrigue will hold a Festival of Calvados and Apple with maybe a few French ciders into the deal..... ”Pere Magloire” the oldest Calvados Producer are the sponsors behind the National Calvados week and we have put together a range of dishes to celebrate this unique drink. Keep that week in your diary.
Following up on our trip in September I am hoping to have a couple of dinners in November with some of the winemakers and Domaines we visited. I will keep you informed on the dates for these events in due time.
Then December will be on us; our menus are now ready and on the website for you to visit. We have kept the prices the same as last year with the same options of a two tier menu which worked so well last year. Please remember that all office parties must be booked by e-mail or by phone as we want to give you all a personal service that the online booking cannot offer. It is then much easier for us to accurately monitor deposit payments and any other requirements.
This year we will again take away the stress of cooking the Christmas family lunch and do the washing up for you. La Garrigue will be open for Christmas Day with 2 seatings. The first one at 12/12.30pm the second at 4/4.30pm. The covers are limited to 30 for each service so please don’t leave it too late before booking your table.
Well I think this is it for today. I just have to look at making a few changes on the menu to celebrate the arrival of Autumn and its products; berries, figs, game, and much more!
Finally, shall I keep Lobster on the menu? We sold almost 200 this August and as long as my fishmonger can keep his price ....why not, unless there is a particular dish you would like to see again, let me know!!!
J-M and team!
